Sports Physicals
Clearance and health checks to keep young athletes safe and ready to play.

Safe Participation Starts with a Sports Physical
Before joining a school team or organized activity, most athletes need a sports physical. At Mesa Family Physicians, we provide fast, reliable evaluations to confirm your child or teen is healthy and ready for physical activity.
We help identify potential risks, update health records, and ensure all required forms are completed, so your athlete can focus on the game.
We offer sports physicals for:
School and recreational sports
Club and travel teams
Youth programs and camps
Middle school, high school, and college athletes
What’s Included in a Sports Physical?
Sports physicals evaluate whether it’s safe for your child to participate in sports. These are not the same as full annual exams but focus on physical readiness and risk factors for activity.
✔ Medical history review – Including previous injuries, asthma, allergies, surgeries, and family heart history
✔ Height, weight, and vitals – Tracking growth and checking blood pressure, heart rate, and more
✔ Musculoskeletal exam – Assessing joints, flexibility, strength, and posture
✔ Heart and lung check – Listening for irregularities that may affect performance
✔ Vision screening – Ensuring your child meets basic requirements for sports
✔ Clearance forms – Completed and signed according to school or league requirements
If your child needs immunizations or a full checkup, we can schedule those as a separate visit.
Our Approach to Athletic Clearance
Supportive Care That Prioritizes Safety
We understand the excitement and pressure that can come with youth sports. Our team takes a supportive, no-stress approach to sports physicals, focusing on safety and honest guidance.
If we identify any concerns like breathing issues, heart risks, or recent injuries, we’ll help guide next steps, including additional testing or specialist referrals when needed.
When to Schedule a Sports Physical
Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute
Most schools and sports leagues require physicals to be completed before the season begins. We recommend scheduling:
4–6 weeks before tryouts or practices – In case follow-up care is needed
Annually – Most organizations require a new clearance each school year
Before returning after injury or illness – To make sure your child is safe to play
When required by coaches or athletic programs – We’re happy to help with last-minute requests
Same-day or next-day appointments may be available during peak season.
