Pre-surgery Clearance
Medical evaluations to help ensure you’re ready for a safe and successful surgery.

Clear, Efficient Medical Evaluations Before Surgery
Before surgery, your care team needs to confirm you’re medically ready. At Mesa Family Physicians, we offer thorough pre-op exams to minimize risks and ensure a safe, smooth recovery.
We coordinate with your surgeon to complete all required tests and paperwork on time, so you’re fully prepared.
We provide pre-op evaluations for:
Elective and outpatient procedures
Hospital-based surgeries
Dental or orthopedic surgeries
Colonoscopy, endoscopy, or other scopes
Procedures requiring general or local anesthesia
What’s Included in a Pre-surgery Clearance Exam?
Every clearance visit is tailored to the type of surgery you’re having, your medical history, and your surgeon’s requirements.
✔ Full medical history review – Including chronic conditions, allergies, past surgeries, and current medications
✔ Vital signs and physical exam – Checking your heart, lungs, and overall physical readiness
✔ Lab work – Blood tests, urinalysis, or other labs required by your surgical team
✔ EKG or chest X-ray – Often requested for patients over 40 or those with heart or lung concerns
✔ Medication guidance – Instructions for managing prescriptions before and after surgery
✔ Clearance forms and communication – We send results and approval directly to your surgeon
We help make the process smooth, clear, and stress-free.
Our Approach to Pre-surgical Care
Collaborative, Thorough, and Timely
Surgery planning can be overwhelming, we’re here to simplify it. During your pre-op visit, we’ll take time to answer questions and review your surgical timeline. If any concerns are identified, we’ll work quickly to coordinate further evaluation or refer you to a specialist if needed.
Our team ensures that all test results and clearance forms are sent promptly to your surgeon, so there are no delays.
When to Schedule Your Pre-op Exam
Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute
Most surgeons require medical clearance within 30 days of your procedure, and some tests take time to process. You should schedule your pre-op exam:
As soon as your surgery is scheduled – Ideally 1–2 weeks before your procedure
If you have chronic conditions – Diabetes, heart issues, or high blood pressure may require extra evaluation
When your surgeon requests specific tests – We’ll help you complete them on time
If you need help understanding medication instructions – We clarify what to pause or continue before surgery
Early planning helps avoid delays and ensures you’re fully prepared.
